All it will take is a little patience for the fish to reach maturity.
The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife stocked the fish May 24 at Riverside Park in Piscataway Township — Exit 9 on 287. Approximately 42,000 surplus fingerling averaging 3.9 inches in length from the state-run Pequest Trout Hatchery were released.
They were removed from the raceways to allow the remaining fingerlings room to grow to a larger size before they are stocked next year, the division said.

It is anticipated that the fingerlings will find suitable habitat, adapt to their new surroundings, and provide recreation as they grow larger.
The minimum size limit for the harvest of trout is nine inches in most waters. There are except in designated trout conservation areas and reservoirs where the limit is 15 inches. Check the division's trout fishing regulations before you go to be on the safe side.
Lake Hopatcong fishing

Laurie Murphy at Dow's Boat Rentals at Lake Hopatcong, the largest freshwater body in the state, said the hybrid striped bass are really starting to bite on herring. The fish are weighing anywhere from five to eight pounds and the fish are being landed off any of the lake points in about 20 foot of water.
She said there is excellent night time action also, not only with the hybrids but with plenty of walleye hitting mostly on bombers. The walleye are weighing up to 8 pounds.

Manager Bruce Bochy says Leake felt the strain in a pregame conditioning session during the recent series at Atlanta. An MRI showed no major structural damage. Bochy is unsure if the injury will force Leake — 9-6 with a 3.52 ERA — to miss more than the one start.
